"Strive to positively impact the world." -Kathy's mission statement
We believe there is a need to continue to impact the foster youth population and help them to avoid homelessness. In an effort to continue our dear friend Kathy's vision of how to impact the world, we would like to once again turn an empty space into a home for an aged out foster youth.
Last year our hearts were full by creating a home for a former foster youth and her son. To touch a life in this way impacted all of us who were there. It is our hope and desire to do it again this year, as the need has not gone away.
A Sense of Home (ASOH) is a disruptor model that transforms the lives of foster youth who “age out” of foster care. ASOH creates the first ever home of foster youth who “age out” of foster care by intervening before homelessness and/ or before a return to homelessness. Run by program recipients, the staff works with volunteers like us to furnish the youth’s space with quality donated furniture to provide dignity, self-worth and a foundation to thrive. Having never felt like they belonged in a home, their new inspired space is an opportunity for the youth to finally belong in the world and a foundation from which they can build a healthy new beginning.
Homelessness and foster care youth are causes near and dear to us. We feel strongly about supporting these causes. Several of us encounter foster and/or homeless children in our daily work. We are inspired to continue to positively impact our world. We hope you will join us!
