My name is Panharee Thang and I am a singer/songwriter/guitarist/performer/sometimes back up dancer (lol) and a member of the Board of Directors for Cambodian Association of Greater Philadelphia. I am a 1st generation Khmer American. Even though I was born here in America, the sense of connection and love for my Khmer culture is deeply rooted. I learned how to read and sing in Khmer from a very young age. Staying connected to Khmer culture and keeping Khmer music and arts alive in the States is very important to me.
One of the toughest decisions we had to make as a Board was the decision to cancel our 41st Annual Cambodian New Year fundraising event. This is a fundraiser that we organize every year and because of COVID-19, we have decided it was best to cancel to ensure the safety and health of all who would have attended our event. The decision to cancel has a direct impact on our funding and programming as we have lost thousands of dollars from fundraising that would have gone into supporting the organization.
I am calling on all of my musician friends out there or even non-musicians who would like to help and ask that you please consider donating to Cambodian Association of Greater Philadelphia and join me in my attempt to keep our beautiful Khmer music and arts alive. I want to help inspire our young ones in our preschool program, after school program and even high school through Khmer art and music education.
Let's help keep Khmer music and arts alive for our little ones! Thank you all so very much and please help share and spread the word.
Peace, love and rock and roll,
