It's that time again! We are starting the drive early this year but the walk is September,11th . We feel it's important to stress that this disease is everywhere. Unfortunately, we now live in a world that is full of darkness and challenging times. No person is out of the reach of addiction. It is important to know that people from all walks of life can struggle from substance abuse, Drug addiction affects all ages, races and economic classes. We were "those" people who thought this will never happen to us. With great pain, we can say it did happen to us and our daughter, Kelsey did not survive. Kelsey's struggles started in Junior High School and followed her throughout her short life. She went to many drug rehab facilities which did their best to help her. We received that dreaded phone call that is every parents worst nightmare. We now live everyday with those horrible memories that have forever changed our lives. Kelsey was beautiful, smart, and courageous. She fought with all her heart to beat this horrible grip that was controlling her body and mind. Kelsey had hopes of a family and goals of a bright future. As anyone who has struggled with addiction or knows of someone struggling, it can destroy your dreams. Kelsey did not want this to define who she was. We choose to remember who our daughter undeniably was each day of her life. She had a smile that would bring joy to your heart. She was opinionated, intelligent, and generous. She loved her brother more than life itself and would have done anything for her family and friends. This is who Kelsey Russell was and will always be. The only true saving grace for us is knowing our daughter is in a beautiful and amazing place called Heaven and she is no longer in pain. We know we will be with her someday soon and can't wait for that day! Join us in supporting the 4th annual Rise for Recovery Walk! Our family has been a part of this walk since the beginning. We have watched KED over the years and feel confident that this organization knows the importance of taking care of these kids and offering them a new chance at life. The Rise for Recovery Walk brings the community together to celebrate those in recovery and to remember those we have lost to the disease of addiction. This day of awareness serves as a pillar of hope for all who attend. Proceeds benefit Kids Escaping Drugs.
