Team Jessica Rekos/Ragnar Relay Cape Cod 2018
On December 14, 2012, our little girl was violently taken from us at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT. In the months that followed, our close friends got together and decided to run the Ragnar Relay on Cape Cod to raise money for The Jessica Rekos Foundation. The relay on the Cape has significant meaning to our family, as our last family vacation was spent on Cape Cod in August, 2012. Jessica loved the beaches and cried as we drove over the Sagamore Bridge to come back home. We promised her we would come back every year. The Ragnar Relay has been our way of honoring that promise to her. And as fate would have it, the race happens each year within days of Jessica's birthday, May 10th. Jessica's dad runs in memory of our daughter, along with our high school friends and his college friends. It is one of two major fundraisers we hold each year for our foundation. The Jessica Rekos Foundation was formed in an effort to continue Jessica's love of horses, to continue her whale "research," and to allow people to remember our little girl through her beloved horses and whales. Our mission is to create and fund programs and events that will allow others to experience Jessica's passions. Additionally, we will support school security efforts to protect children like Jessica and her classmates.
