I have been wanting to run an official half marathon for far too long now, but moving to Hawaii has forced me to stop saying and start doing. Originally I was going to run the first race I found, but when I saw that the Hibiscus Half Marathon was to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, I immediately registered. This cause is very near to my heart because one of my closest family friends suffered from blood cancer before he passed away in 2013. He was a person that embraced life with pure excitement and truly made the world a better place in every way. His absence is something I still don’t know how to fully come to terms with, which is why I try to channel his energy in the way I live my life. Whenever I am afraid of taking action, I think about what he would tell me and the answer is always an enthusiastic, “go for it!” This is why I will be running this race, in his honor, with the biggest smile possible all 13.1 miles.
I genuinely appreciated every single contribution made to this campaign. 100% of the proceeds will go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
