In 2007, I was selected as a Golden Apple Scholar. Throughout the interview process I was constantly reminded of the standard that needed to be maintained academically to remain a scholar, but more importantly I was drilled on the ethical beliefs I must embody.
Golden Apple helped turn me from a first generation college student into a pre-service teacher who graduated with honors. Then to a teacher who has worked and served around the world. It gave me the network and support to do research, train teachers and continue to work towards the fundamental belief that "All Children Deserve Excellent Teachers".
This year, I'm hoping to raise funds to help this organization continue its mission to provide the most vulnerable students in Illinois with exceptional teachers.
