Sometimes you just don't know, until you know. Before having Jacob, I had ideas of what pregnancy/childbirth/motherhood were like. Flashforward and everything was thrown out the window (life, right).
We were lucky that our early term baby was a little fighter and neither of us had complications-however that isn't the case for every family. That's why this year, I'm running the Chicago Marathon on behalf of Every Mother Counts. I honestly can't think of a better organization to support as I run my first post-partum marathon.
EMC's mission is to support maternal health around the world. Hundreds of thousands of women die during pregnancy and childbirth each year. That's 800 women every day. The good news is that almost all of these deaths are preventable. Every Mother Counts is a non-profit organization dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother. We run because often distance is the biggest barrier to a woman and her family getting the care they need. Simply put, we want to run so that others don't have to...And now, we're hoping you will lend your support no matter how big or small.
