Every mother deserves maternal care; I have been lucky enough to have given birth to two healthy boys with uncomplicated pregnancies and deliveries. But that isn't every mother's story.
Often we think of healthcare crises happening in "other" places and not right here in the United States- but unforunately the United States is the only industrialized nation with a rising maternal mortality rate. Lack of access to care, discrimination, dismissive and disrespectful treatment as well as shortages of appropriate care are all things that women here in the United States face as a part of maternal care and childbirth. This is not an issue limited to the developing world. The good news is that maternal deaths can be prevented through quality, accessible healthcare.
However, the developing world ALSO faces a great need for maternal care; and the mission of Every Mother Counts to improve GLOBAL maternal care for ALL mothers.
"We work to achieve quality, respectful, and equitable maternity care for all by giving grants and working with partners and thought leaders to increase awareness and mobilize communities to take action.
Every Mother Counts’ mission is to make pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother, everywhere."
I am running the Chicago Marathon for those who can't. I am running to do my part to make pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother.
Please donate whatever you can to this worthy cause and help me reach and exceed my fundraising goal of $2,000!

Every Mother Counts is running the 2019 Bank of America Chicago Marathon for the 6th year in a row to raise awareness and funds to support maternal health around the world. Hundreds of thousands of women die during pregnancy and childbirth each year. That's 800 women every day. The good news is that almost all of these deaths are preventable. Every Mother Counts is a non-profit organization dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother. We run because often distance is the biggest barrier to a woman and her family getting the care they need. Simply put, we want to run so that others don't have to...And now, we're hoping you will lend your support no matter how big or small.
