Hi everyone! My name is Kristen O’Connell and welcome to my Every Mother Counts fundraising page!
I am running the 2019 Chicago Marathon for mother’s across the world.
I found out about Every Mother Counts when I joined the Oiselle Volee. I graduated from Drexel Unviersity in 2017 as a nutrition major and also received a certificate Human Lactation. I had no knowledge of maternal health, lactation and pregnancy before this. I learned so much about lactation anatomy and physiology, public policy of breastfeeding and the prenatal care disparities across a city like Philadelphia. I would have clinical at different Women, Infant, Children centers across Philadelphia. The disparities in prenatal care were enormous. Women wouldn’t have the time, nor the money to get prenatal care to help themselves and their babies. This lack of care would lead to lack of breastfeeding knowledge and in turn less likely to breastfed and more money spent on formula.
I currently work at Pennsylvania Hospital in the ICN (intensive care nursery) and get to see premature babies get a chance at life and great care. Not every mother and baby across the city, state, country and globe have that opportunity. I am fundaraising for those mothers, those babies who don’t have access to prenatal care. You can help these mothers.
Approximately 303,000 women die each year due to complications related to pregnancy and childbirth. That’s one woman every 2 minutes. 2 minutes.
Please donate to help me reach my goal of $2,000!
Every Mother Counts is running the 2019 Bank of America Chicago Marathon for the 6th year in a row to raise awareness and funds to support maternal health around the world. Hundreds of thousands of women die during pregnancy and childbirth each year. That's 800 women every day. The good news is that almost all of these deaths are preventable. Every Mother Counts is a non-profit organization dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother. We run because often distance is the biggest barrier to a woman and her family getting the care they need. Simply put, we want to run so that others don't have to...And now, we're hoping you will lend your support no matter how big or small.
Here are some ways you can get involved.
