According to the World Health Organization 300 million people around the world experience depression. Of these 300 million people, 3.1 million are between the ages of 12 and 17. Erika's Lighthouse: A Beacon of Hope believes that every person deserves good mental health and the right to a life full of purpose. They work to spread the message that although depression is common, and can be serious, you can get better. They do this by educating and raising awareness about adolescent depression, encouraging good mental health and breaking down the stigma that surrounds mental health issues. I am joining Team Erika's Lighthouse in the Chicago Marathon because I know the impact depression could have on an individuals life, and hope to help as many people as possible by raising money for this charity. I personally have been affected by depression, and know that with treatment and support of friends and family things do get better. With your support, you will allow me to reassure these adolescents struggling with depression, that they are not alone, deserve support, and to live a fulfilling life.
