This is a story of two Emilys. Emily Crosgrove (29) of Concord, CA a disabled athlete and Emily Hirsch (25) a USC graduate student. The short story is Emily H and her dad (David) signed up to do the Napa Valley Marathon and were introduced to Emily C by some mutual friends at Ainsley's Angels, the Virginia Beach, VA non-profit that enables those who would not otherwise be able to participate in running events.
Emily C has Cerebral Palsy and gets around day-to-day in a wheelchair. She is aslo the mother of 9 year old Delilah. Emily also owns a customized running chair and has particpated in a variety of races the past couple of years.
This will be Emily H's first marathon. Prior to this event, the longest race she completed was the London Landmarks Half-Marathon in March 2018.
The two Emilys and David are raising funds to support the 21st Century Dads Foundation, a non-profit whose signature program is the Special Fathers Network, a dad to dad mentoring program for fathers raising children with special needs. Expereinced dads are matached with young fathers raising a child with the same special need, to help the younger dad better navigate the twists and turns associated with raising a child with special needs.
Your donations will go to underwrite the SFN and the SFN Dad To Dad Podcasts, highly inspirational stories of hope and perseverence of dads from coast to coast who are role models for all dads, including those with typical kids and otherwise.
THANK YOU for donatiing as well as sharing this information with family and friends.
