I am running the Chicago Marathon with EVERY MOTHER COUNTS to raise awareness and funds to support maternal health around the world.
This will be my first marathon. Training is well underway now. Its not been easy but running with a purpose has helped push me forward, even on days when the alarm says 4am or when the humidity is over 90! Here's why.
I have two wonderful children. I was lucky enough to give birth, as I wanted, in hospital. I had excellent maternal care and both children arrived safely.
But its not like this for all women everywhere.
Hundreds of thousands of women die during pregnancy and childbirth each year. That's 800 women every day. The good news is that up to 98% of these deaths can be prevented.
Every Mother Counts is a non-profit organization dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother.
Simply put, I am running so that others don't have to. I am running because often distance is the biggest barrier to a woman and her family getting the care they need.
And now, I am hoping you will lend your support no matter how big or small.
These short videos highlight the reasons why I am running and fundraising for Every Mother Counts.
