I am SO EXCITED to be runnning the Chicago Marathon in 2018 for an incredible charity - Every Mother Counts. Every Mother Counts is a non-profit organization dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother, everywhere.
I am an obstetrician from the UK and have worked in Kenya and Sierra Leone and have seen first hand how important it is to ensure every woman has safe acees to childbirth services everytime everywhere.
I moved to Boston in January 2017 for a research fellowship and have taken up running and this will be my FIRST ever marathon!
The pictures show me teaching emergency obstetrics in Kenya and Sierra Leone in low resource settings and some of my running adevntures over the past year. Helping to bring a baby into the world is one of the greatest joys and privilges that I can possibly have and we need to make sure every woman, every time, everywhere has the skills, knowledge and resources for safe childbirth.
Every Mother Counts uses running events as fundraising and awareness raising opportunities. Various race distances are great metaphors for the average distances women in many developing countries have to travel, usually on foot, to reach basic and emergency healthcare during pregnancy and labor. Many times, distance and lack of transportation prevent women from reaching the care needed in time to save their lives. Myself and others run to cover the miles, so they do not have to.
Please help me raise money for a very important cause and to encourage me as I train hard over the next year!
