I'm excited to announce that on October 7, 2018 I am joining TEAM EMC - EVERY MOTHER COUNTS in the 2018 Bank of America Chicago Marathon. It will be my first marathon and my biggest undertaking since #bodyrebuild.
#bodyrebuild is a hashtag I use to remind myself that I am fortunate to have overcome postpartum sepsis. I had access to a health care system and professionals who could easily detect and establish the best course of action - with options - to get me back to my most important new role of being a first time mama.
Did you know that every 2 minutes a woman dies from a result of complications in pregnancy or childbirth?
The good news is that up to 98% of these deaths can be prevented. EMC is a non-profit organization dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother.
Distance is the biggest barrier to a woman getting the care she needs. EMC helps mothers reach maternity care by improved access to transportation, access to skilled birth attendants who will provide quality care, and access to well-equipped healthcare workers and facilities with electricity and critical medical supplies.
I am slowly rebuilding my body. Training for the Chicago marathon will require endurance and strength and test me in new ways. That said, I want to run so that others don't have to. I want to run because I can.
I appreciate any donations and words of encouragement. Thank you so much for your generosity!
