On November 17th, 2004, I lost my best friend to Suicide. It was late at night, around bedtime, when she called to say goodbye and I heard her voice for the last time, I didn't realise that I would never speak to her again.
There are many that need a contact, connection, a phone call, that may help them get through that moment of difficulty, that my best friend went through that night.
This is why the Samaritans has a very near and dear place in my heart, as the only community-based organization in the NYC that is devoted solely to helping people in distress, crisis and are struggling with mental health issues. Samaritans work tirelessly around the clock doing suicide prevention work; suicide being the 10th leading cause of death America and 2nd leading cause of death of teenagers and colleges students.
So please join me in raising much needed funds and supporting Samaritans of New York Suicide Prevention Center that is rooted in kindness, generosity, and suicide prevention work.
Funds raised from this event will go towards the Samaritans 24-hour crisis hotline, whose volunteers have responded to over 1.3 million calls; a public education program that has trained over 40,000 health providers; and support groups that have helped thousands of people who have lost loved ones to suicide.
We are here. We listen. We care.
