FRANCES S. COLÓN - TEAM CHARLOTTE
This August 3rd-4th I will be attempting to run one mile every hour for 24 consecutive hours in the Anytime Fitness 24 in 24 Challenge.
Naturally, throughout our lives we prepare to accept that our parents will pass. We may not like it, but we know someday they will no longer be with us. When you have a child, you never prepare to lose them like that. I learned this when i had to hold my sister from collapsing after finding out her 6 year old son was brain dead. We had just gotten back from my dad’s first Chemotherapy. The world slowly stopped and everyone looked lost. Empty. A piece of her left when he did. She has never been the same.
We never prepare ourselves for the loss of a child. Living even through the slightest possibility of losing your child is something that changes you and your family forever.
Children deserve the world. They deserve to enjoy their childhood. If I can be a part of something special to help celebrate the ones who have overcome all obstacles thrown their way, you best believe i will.
I run for the parents who worry endlessly. I run for those who won the battle. I run for those who didn't. I run for those who are slowly recovering. I run for those who can’t.
I run for my nephew on earth while he runs in heaven. And this year specifically, I run for Charlotte.
Charlotte was born on August 13, 2013. Charlotte received her first echocardiogram, electrocardiogram and other testing when she was just three days old. She was in heart failure and had been born with Congenital Endocardial Cushion Defects. She underwent her first open heart surgery at 21 months old. She still has mitral valve regurgitation and stenosis which will eventually require more surgeries. She has also been diagnosed with Apraxia, Hypotonia, and most recently was diagnosed as having a genetic duplication on her 7th chromosome. Charlotte has experienced so much in her almost 6 years of life and remains an upbeat, caring, determined person.
Will you support my efforts and help me grant Charlotte’s Big Wish?
