Team CdLS made its debut on October 22, 2000 at what is formerly known as The LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon. Over the course of 19 appearances, the team grew from 1 member upwards to nearly 30 and raising an average of $55,000 per year - making it one of the largest fundraisers for the CdLS Foundation.
The Team CdLS founder, Frank Mairano shares, “Running the Chicago Marathon started as an idea hatched during a run on the beach in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Thanks to the dedication of the Team pioneers, Team CdLS has grown to become nationwide with athletes participating in a variety of athletic events from walks to Ironman races."
Celebrating its 20 year, Team CdLS Chicago is ready to take on the 29 neighbors (26.2 miles) in Chicago on October 11, 2020! Inspired by individuals with Cornelia de Lange Syndrome (CdLS), Team CdLS members challenge themselves to better the lives of people with the syndrome—many of whom struggle to talk, eat and walk. There is no cure for CdLS, but you can help ensure services and programs for families remain by supporting the CdLS Foundation.
CdLS Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit institution that provides compassionate licensed social workers who assist in connecting individuals with CdLS and their families with experts from various medical, educational and therapeutic specialties who dedicate their invaluable knowledge and resources on a volunteer basis.
CdLS Foundation is a really special place, where professionals work tirelessly to help individuals with CdLS and their families make connections with others who face similar challenges through the biennial family conference, family gatherings, phone calls and social media.
Funds raised by runners of Team CdLS are critical as the organization is the only one of its kind in the United States that supports the 3,000+ known individuals diagnosed with the rare syndrome and the 10,000+ who remain undiagnosed.
