June 7, 2015 my Granny passed away. This was one if not the toughest days of my life. My Granny (my dad’s mom) was the most caring strongest person I ever met. Although June 7, 2015 was the day she passed for many years before that her health and quality of life was decreasing rapidly. The main reason for this decline is that my Granny suffered from Alzheimer’s Diseases.
My Granny who was once a strong independent women that raised three successful boys by herself by working as seamstress and a cafeteria lady could no longer live or function independently because of Alzheimer’s. I was in high school when things started to get bad. Every time I would visit her she would be confused that I was no longer the little kid that she remembered. Then one day when I was right out of college my sister and I went to go visit her and she did not know who I was. Even after reminding her several times she was unable to remember. This moment sticks with me often. This moment shows the true destruction that Alzheimer’s can cause. Knowing the nature of Alzheimer's and knowing the suffering it could cause people and their families I have decided to Join BVB Dallas.
I am looking forward of being a part of this great organization. In dedication to my Granny I look forward to raising money for research to beat Alzheimer’s Diseases and to help the people that suffer from it. I know my Granny would love the idea of fundraising center around a Powder Puff football game. She may not have understood the game completely but she did enjoy the friendships and joy football brought my father and I. So I look forward of spreading the same joys of football to the players on the team as I coach this year. Thank for taking the time to read this and Geaux Bru Crew.
