If you told childhood Missy - or even Missy from a year ago - that I was planning to run a marathon, I would have laughed in your face- but things change.
If you know me well, you've heard me say that mental healthcare should be like physical healthcare: normalized, talked about often, and accessible. Failure to do this means those struggling have a hard time asking for help when they need it, when there is nothing to be ashamed of - you wouldn't be ashamed of a cast on a broken wrist.
Ending the stigma around mental health is something that is close to my heart. When I was 9 years old, my dad died by suicide. I can’t go back and help him get the support he needed but I can do whatever I can so that more people have access to Mental Health services. A trained therapist helped me work through some things, and I have recently found that running helps me do the same.
There are plenty of marathons I could have entered and while running one marathon with a fundraising requirement puts more on the line, it’s worth it for the Brookline Center for Mental Health. I won’t be able to run this marathon or reach my fundraising goal without your help and support. Please join me in supporting this incredible organization. Thank you so much!

Team Brookline, the Town of Brookline’s official Boston Marathon team, is a committed group of adult runners who train together for the Boston Marathon while raising funds for five partner charities that play an integral role in strengthening and enriching our community: The Brookline Center for Community Mental Health, Brookline Education Foundation, Brookline Library Foundation, Brookline Symphony Orchestra, and Brookline Teen Center.
Since its inception in 2012, more than 125 runners, supported by friends, family, neighbors, colleagues, and each other, as well as local business community, have raised $1.2 million to strengthen our community and make a true impact in the lives of all who live, work, or go to school in Brookline.
When you train and run with Team Brookline, you strengthen our community, expanding access to mental health care, literacy, the arts, youth development programs and education.
