Family and Friends
April 20th here I come! I am honored to be running for the Brookline Teen Center as part of Team Brookline. Having lived now in Brookline for a cumulative 18+ years (!!), I can't wait to support this dynamic local organization for my 5th Boston Marathon.
The Brookline Teen Center, BTC, is a unique drop-in facility where teens can spend their out-of-school time in a safe place with activities centered around academic enrichment, physical activity and socio-emotional health. Brookline is a diverse community with one of the highest ranked public school systems in the nation. For decades, there were no after-school options; no dedicated youth center, YMCA, or Boys and Girls Club within the town. Developed out of need, the BTC opened its doors in 2013, providing a place for kids to relax with friends, work out, get help with homework, and explore new interests. The Center also offers a job search program, a music studio, an academic center, a maker space, and cafe for meal options- even a bowling alley! The "teen based" model enables the kids to be involved in the marketing, media and programming decisions of the Center. There is a Teen Board of Directors, Teen Music Team, Teen Events Council and teen employees. Many use the BTC as a place to launch their own ideas for projects, events and programs. I am a true believer in this vibrant space and its ability to empower our youth with a positive teenage experience.
Your contribution will make a real difference and will allow the BTC to recruit and maintain their amazing staff, keep the lights on, and continue to develop more programs. The Brookline Teen Center helps to make Brookline a great place to grow up, for all kids.
Team Brookline, the Town of Brookline’s official Boston Marathon team, is a committed group of adult runners who train together for the Boston Marathon while raising funds for five partner charities that play an integral role in strengthening and enriching our community: The Brookline Center for Community Mental Health, Brookline Education Foundation, Brookline Library Foundation, Brookline Symphony Orchestra, and Brookline Teen Center.
In 2019, Team Brookline was in the top 25 of all Boston Marathon charity teams. Since its inception in 2012, more than 155 runners, supported by friends, family, neighbors, colleagues, and each other, as well as local businesses, have raised $1.675 million to strengthen our community and make a true impact in the lives of all who live, work, or go to school in Brookline. When you train and run with Team Brookline, you strengthen our community, expanding access to mental health care, literacy, the arts, youth development programs, and education.
