It's official. I'm running the Boston Marathon on Team Brookline to benefit the Brookline Center for Community Mental Health. This will be a one and done for me (mark my words!). Please, please, please donate if you're able.
I don't think I know anyone that hasn't experienced the difficulties of our mental health system either themselves or with a family member or friend. With the majority of mental health disorders still going untreated, places like the Brookline Center are increasingly important...and unfortunately rare. The Brookline Center provides effective, high quality mental health care regardless of a client's ability to pay. In addtion, the Center works tirelessly to improve the state of mental health care delivery far beyond it's walls.
Through advocacy, innovation, and philanthropy, the Center created the BRYT Network, which develops and supports schools across Massachusetts and now across the country, to create independent, clinically staffed classrooms to help students transitioning back to school after experiencing mental health challenges.
Honestly, there's not enough space to write all the wonderful things about the Brookline Center. The real crux of it is that when you or someone you know is struggling with mental illness, it's hard to find support and care. If you can't afford to pay out-of-pocket, it can be virutally impossible. It's saddening given that mental health care can make such a drastic improvement in people's lives. The Brookline Center is hoping to change that and I'm hoping to help.
Thank you for reading and for donating.
