To my circles of support!
Mark your calendars! I am proud (and slightly terrified!) to announce I am running the 123rd Boston Marathon, on April 15, 2019. I will be running with Team Brookline, for the Brookline Education Foundation (BEF).
The BEF is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving Brookline’s commitment to excellence in public education. My two lovely boys, Liam and Gael, are currently enrolled in Brookline public schools, and our family has benefited directly from the expertise of many Brookline educators and specialists who have received BEF grants to advance their professional knowledge. When we think of our own circles of support, we typically think of friends, family, neighbors, colleagues, and community members. When raising a child with a disability, these circles of support become critical for all family members, and often include a team of doctors, specialists, and special educators. When my 6 year old son, Gael, was diagnosed with Fragile X Syndrome, a rare genetic condition with no cure, two years ago, we embraced all and any support offered, and relied heavily on the expertise of Brookline's early childhood educators. We attribute much of his current success to BEEP (Brookline's Early Education Program) educators, many of whom are also BEF grant recipients - Gael loves school, is highly motivated by his neurotypical peers, and he is included (something we never take for granted). Running for the BEF is a subtle nod of gratitude for their role in helping Brookline educators be the very best they can be, while also fulfilling a secret ambition I've been mulling over for many years.
As I begin this endeavor, I dedicate my training and race day efforts to my brother, whose marathon career has inspired me to finally take on my own as I approach 40, to my friends, Nicola and Craig, currently facing much greater challenges than my quest for marathon success, and with much gratitude to the many phenomenal circles of support I have because of each of you who are still reading! haha!
Thank you for visiting my official fundraising page. Any form of support will be very gratefully received - donations will be much appreciated, and heckles of support from the sidelines as I cruise through Coolidge Corner on Marathon Monday, even better!
