My name is Alban Crook.
This year I have made it a goal to run all three of the World Marathon majors that are in the United States: Boston, New York, and Chicago.
I qualified for both Boston and New York by running the Des Moines Marathon on October 21st, 2018 with a personal best finish time of 2:48:48! That was good enough for 18th overall and my second age group award in four years of running the Des Moines Marathon.
The Chicago Marathon I have chosen to complete as a charity runner for Team Bright Pink, an organization that works to educate women on their risks for breast and ovarian cancer. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women and the race is during October, breast cancer awareness month. Everyone probably knows a friend or relative that has battled breast cancer. It is an important organization to me because my grandma had breast cancer, and her aunt did as well. Her aunt passed away from it. My girlfriend has an aunt and cousin who are breast cancer survivors.
Another reason I support this charity is because I have donated my hair to women with cancer. My last donation was July 2015 to Pantene Beautiful lengths. Now, four years and three months later, after the Chicago Marathon I will be donating it to Hair We Share! Hair We Share provides wigs free of charge to children under 18 and to adults with financial hardship. Most recipients are men, women, and children who suffer from cancer or alopecia.
