I moved to Charleston, SC almost six years ago to take an Business Account Executive position. My daily travels take me to various areas throughout the city and the tri-county area. I have noticed many areas that are somewhat depressed and children that are locked into those areas and have now real avenues for a touch of freedom or to gain a decent level of exercise.
About 5 months ago, at one of our local chamber of commerce groups networking luncheon, I met Katie Bloomquist who founded and runs the non-profit Going Places in 2016. It is an amazing story how Going Places came about and the JOY! they have and continue to provide to children, one school at a time. I decided to help with this year’s found raising efforts. I set a lofty goal of $2,500, which will, on average, provide 25 (my lucky number) children with great bike, a lock and a helmet. It would be awesome if I could double that. An average class size is also approximately 25 students. I realize with the Covid times might be tough for some, any amount would be much appreciated as it all adds up. There is nothing like seeing the smiles of joyful, happy children.
