This is my first year fundraising with Blondes vs Brunets Dallas (BvB). I was introduced to them by my friend Mike, and instantly knew it was a group I wanted to be involved with. BvB is a fundraising group for Alzheimer’s, but not only for research, but for family support as well. It ends with a big powder puff football game at the end of the season, and I'm coaching Team Blonde!
This is a disease that hits close to home for me, as my grandfather Clarence Cornelius Aloysius Quinn, known simply as Bud to most, but Pop-pop to me, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s when I was only in middle school. He lived for many years with Alzheimer’s, like most needing total care at some point, until he passed on March 16th, 2010. My family always says they needed another Irishman in heaven for St. Patrick’s Day. It was a hard disease to understand when I was younger, and unfortunately when I got older and wanted to know more about my grandparents and their lives, Pop-pop was in the nursing home, where my Mom-mom visited him every day, and I mean every day. What I do know is that my Pop-pop was a great and kind man, a person I could only aspire to be like one day. He shaped my career, he’s literally the reason I became interested in nursing, and ultimately became a nurse.
My Pop-pop is the reason I’m fundraising for Alzheimer’s, he’s the one I’m honoring in doing this. I thank everyone who visits my page, and a special thank you to everyone that donates to help us reach our goal, and help all those out there that are effected by Alzheimer’s. Please use the donate box on this page to donate to this cause. You will receive an e-mail confirmation of your donation, which can be used for tax purposes. With a $25 donation, you will receive a ticket to the big game and a chance to help and ultimately find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease. Go Team Blonde!
