Team Awesome first did the Polar Plunge in 2017. I was feeling down about the state of things and decided I needed to do something to feel better. Growing up I had a close family friend named Mark who sadly passed away due to complications from having Down Syndrome. He was an amazing person who bucked the 'disabled' label by being one of the most capable people I've ever known. He played Saxophone and Drums, he helped coach football, he worked with his brother's lawn care business and he loved the Three Stooges. So I decided to do the Polar Plunge to help support the Special Olympics, of which Mark participated.
In our first year, Team Awesome consisted of 4 people and we raised almost $1,500. In 2018 we grew to a team of 7 and raised over $2,200.
Our team goal for this year is $3,000 and our ranks our growing yet again. If you'd like to join, we encourage you to do so. The brief, fleeting cold that you feel is very much so outweighed by the knowledge that you've done something selfless.
So, please donate or join Team Awesome.
