Hello all! My name is Stany Leblanc and I am excited to begin fundraising for the NYC marathon occuring this upcoming November. Quick Bio: I am the son of Haitian immigrants from Long Island, New York who graduated from Stanford University in 2009 and since then have been a proud resident of New York City.
It is with great pleasure that I get to partner with my neighborhood's non-profit organization, Asphalt Green, which provides free extracurricular programs for low-income students so that they can develop socially as well as physically without financial commitment
As some of you may know, I am an educator in the South Bronx, where I have taught and served as an Assistant Principal for over a decade at the Mott Hall Science and Technology Academy. Through my experiences I understand the value of an equitable and excellent education and the impact it can have on underserved communities. In order to better serve my students and their familes, I am also currently pursuing a doctorate degree in Urban Education Leadership at Columbia University. My deep roots in education, social justice, and equity further fuel my passion to aid Asphalt Green in providing students like mine with all the tools, opportunities, and resources to exceed expectations and reach their goals.
Though education is my priority, I am constantly searching for ways to challenge myself physically as well as mentally. I've always had a competitive nature and I have found a healthy way to channel all my energy into my running lifestyle that is part of my daily routine. This new found love of mine coupled with my devotion to disenfranchised communities has allowed me to find a great balance in life and a perfect match in joining the Asphalt Green team.
Asphalt Green was founded by the community, for the community.
Through a multifaceted roster of Community Programs, we achieve our mission to assist individuals of all ages and backgrounds to achieve health through a lifetime of sports and fitness .
When you donate to our NYC Marathon Team, not only do you bring dedicated runners into the fold at the 50th Annual Marathon...your funding supports Community Programs that ultimately serve tens of thousands of underserved individuals annually.
As Team Asphalt Green works toward their marathon goals, they are fundraising to support the quality and reach of these robust Community Programs:
• The Recess Enhancement Program (REP) gets 30,000 youths per year moving during recess through safe, inclusive, and active games.
•Through the Recess Training Program (RTP) AG experts conduct trainings at up to 26 schools and indirectly serve 11,700 youths annually.
•Waterproofing provides free, life-saving swim instruction for up to 4,000 2nd grade students on a weekly basis during the entire school year.
• Our Community Sport Leagues (CSL) provide 1,000 middle school students with the opportunity to play organized sports and compete against other school teams, in addition to building life skills such as teamwork, confidence, and perseverance.
•Through Scholarships, Asphalt Green offers more than 500 children and teens subsidized tuition to our fee-based camps and travel leagues.
•The Skills in Motion program assists 350 seniors each year through a unique fall-prevention and fitness program.
Please join Team Asphalt Green in making sports, fitness and recreation available to underserved New Yorkers.
