The Falmouth Road Race has been an important part of Live4Evan's fundraising for the past several years. However, in 2020, the prestigious Road Race takes on even greater significance for Live4Evan due to the current global circumstances.
Live4Evan continues to provide three patient-family apartments for families traveling to Boston for cardiac care at Children's Hospital. The cardiac surgeries and procedures that these children receive are life-saving and cannot be delayed, despite the limitations that the COVID-19 pandemic has created. Without a place to stay, these families would otherwise not be able to travel to Boston for the world-class treatment their children need.
The pandemic has had a significant impact on Live4Evan's typical fundraising efforts. With two events postponed and the status of the Boston Marathon uncertain, Live4Evan views the virtual Falmouth Road Race as a terrific opportunity to raise the vital funds needed to continue to provide housing for the families of cardiac patients in Boston. The critical care for these children cannot be cancelled or postponed. We urge you to help however you can to ensure that their families have a place to stay while receiving life-saving medical treatment.
What Live4Evan has meant to Anderson's Family:
“Live4Evan made a tremendous impact on our family. We were traveling to Boston for the first time and we’re incredibly overwhelmed by logistics and cost.
The thought of being in an unfamiliar city for a long term stay was terrifying. We knew we would be gone for a while and we couldn’t fathom leaving our heart healthy child behind.
Many of the other housing options didn’t allow for families to stay together. Live4Evan was different. They allowed my parents and family to stay in their apartment so we could have a support system during one of the most difficult times in our life.
It was comforting to come back from the hospital and be able to cook, wash our laundry and spend time together in a relaxing environment. The apartment also allowed us to provide a sense of normalcy to toddler who couldn’t understand what was happening to her little brother.
It was important for us to travel as a family and many of the hospital's options wouldn’t house a family. We needed an extra caregiver for our heart healthy toddler and many places wouldn’t allow them to stay. Since our parents took off of work, we felt it wasn’t fair to make them pay for a long term hotel stay. We stressed for weeks as we planned for how to financially afford an apartment or long term hotel stay. The cost was more than we could afford, but we had no other option because our son need the best care possible in Boston.
Just days before our sons first open heart surgery we found out that we would not get housing, even though we were on numerous waiting lists for over a month. A few days later we got a call from Live4Evan. We were so relieved to find out we could stay in their apartment.
The housing they provided allowed our family to save money and be able to solely focus on our sons needs. We are forever grateful to their organization.”
