The last three summers I was able to volunteer my time coaching 100+ wonderful ladies of Dallas in flag football with BVB Dallas. In that time the girls, other coaches, and I raised over $1 Million to support research for Alzheimers Disease.
This year with incresae business responsibilities and additional commitments I am not able to commit to coaching on the field every week but can for sure still do my part and raise money and awareness for sucha great cause.
Why you ask?
Because four years ago my beloved, sweet, caring Aunt Pat Haines aka “Auntie P” was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s at the age of 57. What you might not know is Alzheimer’s is the 6thleading cause of death in the USA. Furthermore, Alzheimer’s is the only cause of death where there is no treatment to slow, prevent, or cure this terrible disease. The only treatment we can provide is to comfort our loved ones as they forget where they put their reading glasses, how to tie their shoes, how to open the car door, how to get dressed, what your name is and eventually how to walk, talk, eat, and breathe.
I have watched my Aunt, now 61 years old, fight and try to combat this terrible disease for 4 long years. As my family provides the best care we know how, we still see no positive results other than the occasional smile. With that smile, it shows us that Pat is still there to love and care for, as her personality shines through in those rare glimpses.
