Teaching St. Mel Students with Technology
St. Mel School needs to raise funds to replace the computer equipment and iPads used daily by our students as a part of the learning process. Specifically, the school needs to replace all 22 student computers in the Computer Lab, which are 7+ years old and running out-of-date software. These computers are used by the students for Computer classes, online testing, and special projects. The iPads are currently 4+ years old and are showing wear from daily use. IPads are used in each classroom for a variety of learning activities.
Here are just a few examples of those activities:
1) Online student/teacher collaboration using our Wonders Reading Series
2) Online research tools used for Social Studies. Research is used to create projects, such as Mission Reports, Character Portfolios, and Biographies, Saint Reports, StudySync, etc.
3) Science-related educational videos (Next Generation Science Standards, NGSS)
4) Math practice using the online Pearson Math Program (Practice Buddy, Re-Teach, Knewtons Adaptive Homework/Practice)
The school had been previously receiving grant money annually from a private corporation to fund purchases of IT equipment. Unfortunately, the school is no longer receiving funds starting this year. The funds needed to purchase this IT equipment is significant.
Here is the breakdown of the costs:
22 Computer Lab PCs:
Dell Inspiron Desktop w/ i5 Processor - $580 each x 22 = $12,760
Keyboard/Mouse Set - $45 each x 22 = $990
Office 365 License - $99 each x 22 = $2,178
Total = $15,928
Apple 7th Gen iPad 10.2 Inch - $320 each x 120 = $38,400
Shockproof iPad Case - $26 each x 120 = $3,120
Total = $41,520
We know that this is a large fundraiser and ask you to prayerfully consider what you can contribute. Any contribution is most valuable to the school and its students. Please feel free to forward this link to anyone that you believe may be interested in supporting this goal. We will purchase the PCs needed for the Computer Lab PC first, and then use all other funds received to purchase iPads for classroom use. We will provide updates related to this goal regularly. We are grateful to all of the parents, grandparents, alumni, parishioners, and friends of the school who give so generously to ensure that the students of St. Mel School have the equipment needed to foster our culture of academic excellence!
Sincerely in Christ,
Janet Nagel, Principal St. Mel School Fair Oaks, CA
