The Carrying On Project is a nonprofit (501c3) that works with military families, current and veteran, to provide baby carriers to improve not only bonding and parenting confidence for service members who may be often separated from their families, but also to make life a little easier for the spouse and other family members left behind during frequent separations, and then also during reintigration and in the years to come following service.
The average baby carrier, mass market produced, can run anywhere from $45-$200. Obviously even as a valuable tool for families, it can be very difficult to put that kind of money aside for something that is not considered vital-to-life. The Carrying On Project partners with amazing, safe and CPSC compliant companies to help lessen the burden for families by providing them entirely for free for qualified applicants, from the moment they apply to even when their babywearing days are over, they do not pay a cent nor do they have to return the carrier.
TCOP has worked to help nearly 10,000 families in the last four years between operational distribution and teaming up with Military Baby Shower hosts like March of Dimes, Operation Homefront, and events hosted by on-base services like ACS, fleet and family, and Navy Marine Corps Relief Fund. The carriers distributed through the application process are mailed, and at the average price of $8.50/carrier, it adds up quickly. Additionally, while many large carrier companies graciously donate, as do supportive individuals, we still need to purchase several hundred carriers a year, and even with the best deals from amazing companies who are working with us to keep costs low, they are still costly. Funds raised from this event will be used to purchase and distribute carriers for our current back log as well as secure carriers and shipping funds to get us started into next year.
