As a daughter of refugees, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) holds a dear place in my heart as I now look at people having to escape their home country similarly to how my parents fled nearly 40 years ago. The journey to flee is perilous and many times fatal, but the hope is liberation, freedom, and a chance at a better life on the other side.
As a child of immigrants, I feel like me and so many other immigrant children are prime examples of what amazing things can happen when we have a chance to be in an environment with the proper infrastructure to thrive.
Last year, I raised over $2,000 for the IRC in honor of both of my parents with an e-book filled with poems (that booklet is still in progress).
This year, instead of buying me drinks or gifts for my birthday, I would like that money to go to the IRC. I chose a goal of $200 because I figured that's how much I would be eating/drinking anyway.
All donations will go directly to the International Rescue Committee when you donate through this link.
