There are 25.4 million refugees in the world, more than ever before. Over half are children. But as fewer and fewer refugees are permitted into the US and as the US cuts funding for international relief organizations, existing non-profits are struggling to stay open. So, I’m dedicating this 1100 mile trek to the children of the Refugee and Asylee community. My goal is to raise 10 dollars for every mile I trek in this wild wild journey.
Funds raised for the 139 mile Otago segment of the trek will go to the Partnership for the Advancement and Immersion of Refugees. After nearly 5 years of service to PAIR, this organization is near and dear to my heart. PAIR provides newly arrived refugee children with educational mentoring programs and cultural immersion curricula. PAIR empowers refugee youth to navigate American society, reach their academic potential, and become community leaders
