This is the fundraising page for Gamers Giving to help Tammy Stilson.
For years Gamers Giving has been a force for good in our Colorado community by fundraising for local charitable causes. Starting in 2016 we shifted our focus from raising money for local causes to assisting members of our community who have had catastrophic circumstances. As gamers we often take on the mantle of heroes saving those in need and bringing peace to the land. Now is our chance to play that role in real life within our own community. We ask you to join us in this quest to help rescue one of our own.
For those who do not know Tammy Stilson, Tammy and Bill have been active in our community since 1998 when they first approached the Denver Gaming Association and asked how they could help. They started off in small ways, but soon after joined the board and served this community for over a decade. They organized Ghenghis Con, which is, and always has been the largest gaming convention in the mountain region, as well as Tacticon another smaller con. We didn't have connected community back then, Tammy didn't just put on a convention, she worked with local game stores to coordinate events so everyone could have a good time. She met with brand new gamers who had just moved to the area, helping them find where their closest games stores were as well as introducing them to some of the more active members of our community so that everyone could find a group that worked for them and have a "home" as gamers in Denver. She even ran Con Jr. which was an event for our children, so they could come to the conventions and fall in love with the hobby that has meant so much to us all.
In 2016, Tammy noticed a bump on her leg. She was told repeatedly by medical professionals that is was nothing without ever doing the necessary checks to make sure of what they were saying was correct. If you don't know much about cancer, you never know when a good day might turn into a trip to the doctor. Tammy didn't know she had cancer yet, but she had to deal with all the problems of cancer, without knowing what was wrong and while taking care of her disabled husband. Life doesn't always cooperate and make things happen at convenient times. Tammy got the call from her doctor that she believed Tammy had cancer, while her husband was in the hospital gasping for breath.
Cancer is expensive. Not only is there a huge cost for treatment, but also unexpected absences from work means that the family's income is being impacted. Because of Bill's disability, he could no longer work to try to make up the difference. Now the bills are piling up and they are struggling just to survive. That's not the easiest things to go through while you are getting treatments for cancer. For years they've been giving to our community, now it is time to help them out in their time of need!
Gamers Giving is hosting our annual all day gaming event, Thanksgaming to raise money for Tammy. As usual we will have gaming with some of Colorado's most well known and loved GMs, we will have our library of hundreds of board games, there will be a silent auction full of cool and unique items. However, Thanksgaming is still months away and Tammy has financial and medical needs now. We will be raising money online for them and there will be special prizes for top fundraisers! Please join the team by creating your own fundraising page on this campaign or making a donation, and spreading the word to your friends and family! Tammy Stilson has taken care of us for years, it's time for us to take care of her.
