Every winter since 1927, University of Michigan medical students take to the streets of greater Ann Arbor to collect monetary donations for the children of Washtenaw County in our annual Galens Tag Days fundraiser, providing a decorative and informational "tag" to be donned by each of our donors. A beloved Ann Arbor tradition, Tag Days plays central role in the mission of the Galens Medical Society to support our local community by funding grants for local non-profit organizations that work to provide educational resources, medical care, and special needs to children in Washtenaw County. Galens members annually raise tens of thousands of dollars, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to local charities.
While we deeply regret being unable to bring our enthusiasm to the corners of Ann Arbor, we are raising money via online and mail-in donations only this year to keep everybody safe in the midst of the pandemic. Over the last year, the SARS-CoV-2 virus has taken an immesurable toll on our communities, affecting the working class, people of color, and those with underlying medical conditions in particular. We encourage you to be as generous as you are able, as local non-profit organizations are especially tight on cash at this moment when help is needed the most.
Wishing you health and peace this holiday season. We look forward to tagging you in town next year!
As always, #ForTheKids and #GoBlue!
