How long is the T2T Tower Climb at Duke Energy?
You will be climbing up to the 50th Floor – that’s 1203 steps.
How many steps are there per flight?
The number of steps vary per flight. There are a total 1203!
Do I have to climb all the way to the 50th Floor in order to participate in the T2T Tower Climb?
No, there will be several bail out floors throughout the climb, on floors 14, 26 and 34. Water stations will also be available at those three floors.
Will there be medical assistance if necessary?
There will be medics on the premises in the event of an emergency.
Will hallways be included in the climb distance?
Yes, participants will pass through a couple of hallways during the climb.
What direction does the stairwell wind?
The stairwell winds to the right.
Is there a limit on how many people can register?
No! The more the merrier.
How long does the T2T Tower Climb take?
This depends on your fitness level, speed and time spent resting. Everyone will finish at a different pace. Competitive Climbers may finish the 50-story climb in less than 10 minutes, while non-competitive participants will likely finish in 15-45 minutes.
Is this a timed climb?
Yes. Each climber will get a timing chip. In order to receive an accurate time, please make sure your bib is clearly visible on the front of the shirt. All results will be posted shortly after the event!
I might get tired and be unable to finish, what should I do?
Slower climbers should move to the left, allowing faster climbers to pass on the right. No problem, just find a volunteer or staff member who can escort you to the nearest rest area and direct you to an elevator.
I’m a first responder; can I wear my bunker/turnout gear, scott packs, etc.?
Yes, you may wear turnout gear. We encourage it!
What is a "Competitive Climber”?
A Competitive Climber is a stair climber who routinely participates in stair climb events across the nation and can run up the stairs, completing the climb in a very fast time.
Can I bring my cell phone?
While it is strongly discouraged, you may bring your cell phone.
When can I pick up my registration packet (bib and t-shirt)?
Packet pick up will take place Friday April 24, 2020. Place and Time will be communicated via email as the event approaches. On Saturday April 25th (day of event), you can pick up your bib and t-shirt starting at 7:00 am at Duke Energy. All climbers MUST have a bib in order to participate.
Event Day Information
What time should I arrive at Duke Energy ?
The event will begin at 8:00am with a ceremony. The first climbers will start promptly after opening ceremonies. Please plan to arrive no later than 8:00am.
Where is the Duke Energy building?
550 S. Tryon Avenue, Charlotte, NC.
Is parking available?
Parking is available in a public lot across the street from Duke Energy on Tryon. Street parking is also available.
Is a bag check area provided?
Due to strict security regulations, we are unable to check bags larger than a ziplock bag. The Foundation is not responsible for any personal items/valuables.
Can my friends and family wait for me at the finish line on the 50th Floor?
No. Due to space limitations and security restrictions, no spectators are allowed at the finish line. They can greet you when you exit the building after an elevator ride down!
Will I receive an event t-shirt?
Yes. All participants in The T2T Tower Climb will receive an event t-shirt and finisher's medal. T-shirts can be picked up at the designated packet pick-up location.
Registration & Minimum Fundraising Details
What is the entry fee for the T2T Tower Climb?
The entry fee for all climbers, including First Responders/Military, is $45. Entry fee for youth 17 and under is $25.
Is there a fundraising minimum?
Yes, there is a mandatory $100 minimum fundraising requirement for all participants in addition to the entry fee. First Responders/Military and youth 17 and under have no minimum fundraising requirement. The minimum fundraising is PER PERSON, not PER TEAM.
Why is there a minimum fundraising requirement?
The goal of this event is to raise money to honor first responders and military heroes. Proceeds will benefit the Foundation’s various programs including our Smart Home, Gold Star Family Home, and Fallen First Responder Programs.

Is there a minimum age to participate?
No, there is no minimum age to participate. Youth 17 and under must have parent permission to participate.
When is the deadline to register for the T2T Tower Climb?
Anyone can register for this event until the start of the climb. Please note, if you register after we close online registration or in person at the event our prices go up so register early to save.
Here’s the schedule for registration:
WEDNESDAY APRIL 22, 2020 at 11:59PM ONLINE REGISTRATION WILL OFFICIALLY CLOSE. Anyone wishing to register after this time can do so at Packet Pick Up on Friday or the morning of the climb between 7:30 and 8:30 am. Prices will INCREASE TO $145 for adult and competitive registration options. First Responders and Children will remain at $45 and $25 respectively.
When is the deadline to meet the $100 minimum fundraising requirement?
Each participant must meet the fundraising requirement by 11:59 PM on Wednesday, April 22, 2020. Participants must agree to meet the minimum fundraising requirement in order to register. If the fundraising minimum is not met by this deadline, participants' credit cards will be charged $100 or the difference, should a portion of the $100 minimum be raised. First responders and military registrants (ID required) as well as youth 17 and under are not required to raise $100.
Can I immediately make a donation of $100 in addition to paying the entry fee instead of fundraising to meet the minimum requirement?
Yes. Once you have completed your registration, you can make a donation of $100 on your individual fundraising page.My company has a matching gift program.
Can a matching gift count towards my minimum fundraising requirement?
Yes, but only if the matching gift is received by Monday, April 20, 2020.
Is any portion of my entry fee tax-deductible?
No. The entry fee helps cover the cost of producing the T2T Tower Climb, and includes a participant t-shirt. This is why fundraising is so important! All donations made or raised above and beyond your entry fee are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.
If I am no longer able to make it to the T2T Tower Climb after registering, can I get a refund or have someone else climb in my place?
No, participation is non-transferrable and registration fees are non-refundable. Your registration fee will become a fully tax-deductible contribution.
