I've been asking for birthday donations for the last 4 years and this year is no different except my age will be a nice round number. A number often considered the last big hurdle into adulthood.
To help finally usher me into adulthood & the slow march to death (jk) I'm asking everyone to donate $30. Nice round number right?
I'm fundraising this year for GiveDirectly.
While they are an awesome organization in general, I'm specifically raising money for their work on Basic Income (sometimes called UBI or universal basic income). UBI has generated some buzz recently as an innovative, simple way of decreasing the inequality gap. While GiveDirectly focuses on the poorest in the world, their work can be directly impactful on creating a UBI system in first world countries as well.
Your donation supports someone for a full month of Basic Income. You have the potential to pull them out of poverty and change their entire family's destiny with your donation. Not to mention being on the bleeding edge of sociological, societal, economic research which could change the course of human history. Plus it is my birthday & you like me. :)
Intersted in learning more about UBI? Here is a frank (unbiased) look at idea that highlights the work GiveDirectly is doing in Kenya:
