While writing Laila's Lair, I quickly saw it become more than a comedy to make people laugh. It had the potential to send a real message. I believe comedy is the easiest form of entertainment to grab people's ears and bring up real issues without creating a divide. I want people to open their minds and start a conversation when watching Laila's NYC experience to understand what is happening in our country with the immigration laws and the real pain in the families that are being torn apart today.
Swïdz Productions wants to give to International Rescue Committee because they respond to the world's worst crises, regardless of race, nationality, sexuality or creed. It cares about the education of young children in countries that aren't recognized. It cares about the safety of women and children in war zones. It cares about the children being torn away from their parents and the psychological damage being inflicted upon them. We want the world to come together and be at peace—to ensure that all people, young or old, from NYC or Ghana, can look forward to a brighter future ahead.
