Fruits and Veggies for all!
Why Produce Pick-Ups?
In the last 10 years, Food Forward has come across neighborhoods that don’t have a reliable source of fresh produce from grocery stores, farmers markets, or even food pantries. People living in these communities are faced with few to no fresh food options. We set out to change that.
The Produce Pick-Up program was launched in 2018, and is Food Forward’s first-ever direct service initiative. This program directly donates to families, individuals, and communities facing particular food security challenges.
How does it work?
The program operates seven free, market-style and bag distributions every month. At each event, 8,000-15,000 pounds of produce, collected through our Wholesale Recovery program, are given out at sites in Watts, South Los Angeles, and Simi Valley.
These distributions are made possible through volunteer power and in collaboration with community partners. All Produce Pick-Ups are completely free and open to the public.
We need your support!
Your donation will help provide over 750,000 pounds of fresh, surplus fruits and vegetables to 32 agencies and nearly 8,000 people in need over the next year through Produce Pick-Ups.
You have the power to make a big impact—bringing nutritious, free produce to communities that need it most.
Every $1 you give = an 11 pound bag of produce. Make a donation today!
