Someone you know has been abused. You may not know it, but they’ve experienced the complicated emotions that come with being controlled by their partner. They’ve felt trapped between the desire to leave and the uncertainty of how they will make it on their own, not to mention the fear that they could become one of the many people killed by an abusive partner. They’ve wondered if anyone would even believe them – after all, their partner is a completely different person when others are around.
Rarely do people experiencing abuse make an instant decision to leave. It may take years for them to even realize that they are being abused. Education is key in the fight to end domestic violence. People need a place where they can learn to recognize and understand abuse, and when they decide it’s time to get out, know what resources and programs are available in their area. That’s why the information shared on DomesticShelters.org is so important.
DomesticShelters.org, a service of the nonprofit Theresa's Fund, helps domestic violence survivors throughout the U.S. & Canada. We operate a free website that helps over 2 million survivors a year find relevant and safe help quickly and easily on any device.
Donations will help to fund our searchable domestic violence program database (the only of its kind), educational articles about important domestic violence topics (nearly 600 published so far) and also provide funding to the top shelters and programs.
We also created an easy online way for people to give back to shelters’ wish lists via our online Wish List Program, saving valuable time for both donors and recipients. At no cost to programs on our site, they can choose from thousands of available items, even marking which are urgent. Donors can then find participating shelters and donate items with just a few clicks.

Sites like ours can't operate without generous support from donors. Please consider supporting our valuable and lifesaving program so that together we can help even more survivors of domestic violence. One-hundred percent of the money donated goes towards the projects themselves, since the non profit operators of DomesticShelters.org, Theresa's Fund, cover all other administrative costs.
