Help us serve our Mission to Protect, Preserve & Perpetuate Nisenan Culture
The Nevada City Rancheria (NCR) has been without Federal Recognition since its illegal termination in 1964. California Heritage: Indigenous Research Project (CHIRP) has been working diligently in recent years to restore Federal Recognition, which would grant the Tribe sovereignty and access to much needed programs and resources. The current Covid-19 crisis has added stress on an already vulnerable population, making it ever more clear the dire need for access to the benefits of Recognition.
CHIRP had a Music & Art Fundraiser planned for 4/4/2020, which was cancelled due to Covid-19. The event was anticipated to be one of CHIRP's largest fund sources this year, with proceeds going directly to support Federal Recognition efforts. While that opportunity was lost, all of the artists who were donating their time and talents to the event have stepped up to offer this virtual music benefit! CHIRP is grateful to all the volunteers and Advocacy Allies bringing this event together to ensure its important work continues, despite the added challenges of this time. And GoFundMe is offering #givingtuesday matching funds to nonprofits raising $1000 or more...a potential added funding stream to replenish what has been lost.
While there is much hardship in a crisis such as what we're in now, it is also a great time to remember the old ways -- checking on the elders and infirm, offering food to neighbors, supporting community in whatever ways we are able. While you can donate to this page anytime between 4/22 thru 5/5 , we hope you will join us for Voicing Our Support: A Live Music Benefit (details below), donate what you are able to support our efforts, share with your friends and stay healthy!
