Hi friends! Many of you know how passionate I am about my yearly trips to eastern Uganda with Atlas. This is an AMAZING organization started by Dr. Lisa Umphrey. Atlas organizes ethical medical electives for students and residents, and makes sure that our partner sites in Uganda are supported in a sustainable way. Our partner sites receive support both financially and through volunteer labor - the funds raised support community clinics, larger hospitals, education initiatives, and women's economic development. I've spent most of my time with Atlas volunteering at a large regional referral hospital, primarily focusing on teaching. For the next three years, I'm going to be doing some guest lecturing and curriculum development at the medical school in Mbale with a focus on adolescent medicine - yay! I'm also the Clinical Field Liaison Officer for Atlas, which means that I get to do yearly trips and check on logistics and make sure our partners are getting what they need from us.
Atlas has done some amazing work in the region and I am so lucky to be a part of it. Please consider donating to my fundraiser to help support their efforts! If you have more specific questions about where the funds go etc, please send me a message or email me and I am happy to give more details.
