Last December, we (Allison and Ty) had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to go on safari in South Africa and Botswana. In addition to being blown away by the profoundly incredible landscapes and animals, our experience speaking with several local guides (regarding the complexities and nuances of effective conservation) inspired us to become more interested and involved in the conservation of wildlife and lands.
Upon returning home, we researched several credible organizations and came across African Parks. We liked this one most because of it's buisness approach (results oriented) to preserving wild spaces, and how they partner with locals to educate and ensure a sustainable mentality around the parks. They focus on "economic development and poverty alleviation in the surrounding areas to ensure that each park is ecologically, socially, and financially stable in the long run." Watch the video to see their efforts in full! All the overhead is covered through a foundation, meaning every dollar donated goes straight to conservation efforts.
