Calling all friends of Enso!
Gather round, we've got some good news and some not-as-good news.
Due to COVID19, Enso is postponing our planned-for-June production of East of the Sun, West of the Moon to Fall/Winter 2020. We were in the early stages of announcing this project when the pandemic hit full-force. East of the Sun, West of the Moon would have been a major revenue source for Enso, and so we are implementing a plan to ensure we can continue paying our artists and our staff.
Like many of you, many of our artists have lost their primary jobs. BUT, Enso still has plenty of work for them in preparation for doing East of the Sun, West of the Moon this Fall, and our goal is to pay them in June as intended.
We are very excited to announce that we've received funding from Advance Gender & Equity in the Arts, as well as from the SBA through the Paycheck Protection Program. This means we have $5,966 of the $9,138 we need to pay our artists & staff through August. That leaves $3,172 left to raise.
GoFundMe has announced that they will match $1,000 raised between now and May 10th on a first-come, first-served basis. With that in mind, we are announcing the launch of our fundraising campaign early, in the hopes that we can qualify for this match!
We recognize that many of our donors may not be able to contribute at this time - and if that's you, we completely understand. But if you are able to contribute ANY amount, they will be deeply appreciated, and you'll be supporting the livelihoods of the artists affected by the pandemic.
If you can't give financially at this time, please SHARE https://charity.gofundme.com/SupportEnso on your social media, with a little bit about why you think others should consider contributing.
THE FUTURE: East of the Sun...
Enso is devising a feminist take on the Norwegian fairy tale, East of the Sun, West of the Moon, for modern audiences. This will be our very first professional production open to ages 8+!
A girl on a journey. A bear with a secret. When their unique bond is shattered by her mistake, the girl must undertake a hero's journey to rescue the bear and defeat the curse.
The adaptation will focus on female agency and bravery in a role traditionally offered to men in this genre.
We are SO excited to share this new play with you.
