The Greater Los Angeles Morehouse Alumni Association Needs Your Support Today!
The COVID-19 pandemic has swept the country affecting life as we know it impacts every aspect of our daily lives. It has also had a devastating impact on Morehouse College resulting in the campus shut down, displacement of students and move to online classes for the rest of the academic year. Students were ordered to move off-campus creating a significant hardship for many disenfranchised California students who relied upon campus resources for aid, housing, food, medical and other services. Many have been displaced, cannot get home, and need support to complete the academic year.
Today, the Greater Los Angeles Morehouse Alumni Association (GLAMAA) Chapter joins other alumni chapters across California including Greater San Diego Morehouse College Alumni Association (GSDMCAA) and Morehouse Bay Area Alumni Association (MBAAA) along with parent organizations including the Association of Los Angeles Morehouse Parents (ALAMP) and Northern California Association of Morehouse Parents (NCAMP) requesting donations and support for Morehouse students from California needing support during this critical time. In a survey conducted last week, students indicated the need for money to cover rent, food, utilities, internet and storage fees over the next 2-3 months. Additionally, some admitted they are experiencing, isolation, depression, and fear. As we are currently working with these incredible young men on an individual basis, we realize our limited resources are not enough to meet their mounting needs. We need your help!
We know that everyone has been affected by the COVID-19 event in some way. Nevertheless, we are relying on the legacy, generosity, and strength of our proud Morehouse community during this unprecedented time. We need everyone to step up, rise to the occasion and help these young men during this very difficult time. Your generosity and donation at any level will be appreciated and will go a long way in making sure these Men of Morehouse have a safe place to live and sleep, food to eat, internet access to take their classes, and whatever additional services and support they need to complete the school year.
So here is what we need from you… today:
-Make a contribution, however large or small, every dollar counts!
-Spread the word, share this campaign with 10 people you know and ask them to pass it on to 10 more
-Challenge your Morehouse brothers (and other brothers and sisters) to support
-Contact your chapter presidents to discuss other ways you can support (gift cards, airline points donation, job opportunities, mentoring, counseling, and other in-kind donations)
On behalf of the very proud community of Morehouse Men in Los Angeles and across California, I thank you in advance for your support and I encourage you to join me in praying for these young brothers as we try to get them through the remainder of this academic year. Let's also stand together and to pray for and support each other as we journey through this unprecedented time.
Take care of yourself and let's take care of each other,
Greater Los Angeles Morehouse Alumni Association (GLAMAA)
