The Calumet Copperbots are so very grateful for everyone that has helped us get to where we are! Last year was simply unbelievable. This small team comprised of 6 students won the Michigan State Championship against some of the best teams in the world and went on to compete at the World Championships for the second time in 3 years. The Copperbots were the smallest team to ever be on the Championship floor and the first team from the Upper Peninsula to be there as well. We proudly represented the Upper Peninsula! This group included 3 freshmen and only 2 veteran team members. The team spent long nights and weekends and hundreds of hours focused on the being the best to get there and truly embodied UP Power! The support of our great community made this incredible journey possible and we are so grateful for everyone that helped us along the way!
This year, the team has grown significantly, as has their ambitions. They have already put hundreds of hours into preparing for the upcoming build season and competitions. They have been learning CAD, design and the returning students work with the new students to understand every part of the design and build process. The Calumet School and some incredible donors have also heavily invested in the students and we now have access to a CNC mill, CNC lathe and CNC plasma table. The robotics team has been working to fully integrate these machines in the processes that they have been doing manually and have already built custom gearboxes and a chassis in their preseason practice.
Please consider supporting this great cause! The dedication and focus of this young group is simply amazing and there is no better vehicle to guide these young engineers. The success of this program is already evident with the Copperbot graduates. Nearly all have gone on to STEM education programs and this experience prepares them like no other. It is an expensive, but invaluable program that truly changes lives. Donations are tax deductible and every dollar is valued and spent on the kids!
