I am Kyle Wilcox, a senior at Millis High School, in Millis, MA. Every year seniors complete a project that gives back to the community. For my project I am raising money and accepting donations to enhance the experiences of families in need who have newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) in Boston, MA.
This project is meaningful to me as I started my life journey as a patient in the BWH NICU in 2001. I was there for 81 days and the care that I received from the nurses, doctors, and entire staff assisted me to thrive following my premature birth.
Having a newborn in the NICU can be a very stressful time for parents. My parents still talk about those early days often and the miracle that the NICU provided for me.
Many parents of babies in the NICU have to deal with issues like commuting to and from the hospital, and medical conditions and treatments that parents of full-term babies never have to think about. Having a child in the NICU often means a major adjustment in a family’s home and work life.
Financial constraints during this stressful time can be a challenge for some parents. I am raising funds and collecting donations to be able to supply the NICU nurses, doctors, and therapists with items that can be given to families to assist them during this difficult time.
Specifically I will be using the funds to purchase new preemie and newborn sized clothing, blankets, books, stuffed animals, as well as gas and meal gift cards, and parking passes. All of these items will go a long way in supporting families with newborns in the NICU.
Please feel free to contact me directly at kgwilcoxrun@verizon.net if you have questions about this project or if you would like to make a donation of any of these items. If you would rather make a donation by cash or check please reach out to me. All donations are tax deductible.
Thank you for supporting my project and the families of those in need with newborns in the NICU.
I am looking to have donations pulled together by April 5th, 2019 at which time I plan to present all contributions to deserving families at the discretion of the NICU staff.
