When the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic struck, the Golden Gate Symphony Orchestra & Chorus was preparing some magnificent music for performances in March: Gustav Mahler's monumental Symphony No. 1, the “Titan”, as well as two world premieres, one by our own GGSOC Bassoonist Jason Gibbs and the second by Mexican composer Carlos Pazos. Our chorus already had started rehearsing the magical Stabat Mater by Gioacchino Rossini for performances with the orchestra in San Francisco and Benicia at the end of May.
The GGSOC is a collaboration of singers, and amateur and professional musicians who come together to create wonderful music, rehearsing and performing the great classics of musical repertoire as well as introducing new composers to Bay Area audiences. Our professionals help push the orchestra to achieve a high caliber of technical and musical accomplishment. The amateurs bring a fantastic level of positive energy and enthusiasm to the group. All together on stage, they present unique and audience-engaging performances with a great sense of personal emotional satisfaction.
We are asking for your support in order to raise money to replace our professional musicians’ lost wages, and to help the GGSOC come out even stronger after we have overcome this difficult time.
Stay safe, wear your mask! Lots of love to all of you.
