Global Minimum (GMin) has partnered with FIRST Global Robotics Challenge to identify high potential secondary school students in Sierra Leone and Kenya to compete in FIRST Global Challenge, an annual international robotics challenge that ignites a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Last year team Sierra Leone took 37th place and Team Kenya 106th place in during the inaugural competition in Washington D.C.
This year's challenge will take place in Mexico City, Mexico, August 16-18. Themed around the 14 Grand Challenges of Engineering identified by National Academies of Engineering, each year a different Grand Challenge takes center stage in an effort to foster understanding and cooperation among the youth of the world as they use their abilities to solve the world’s problems. This years theme is Energy Impact.
Team Sierra Leone
After taking 37th place in 2017, Team Sierra Leone is excited to be participating once again representing Sierra Leone! This year one of the 2017 team members is playing the role of technical Mentor. This years team members are Akiatu Amida Thomas, Santigie Sankoh, Patrick Ngebeh, Hannah Adama Gbla, Hassan Deadewai Swaray, Osman Yaah and Mariama Djelo Bah.

Meet Team Kenya, a group of four young STEM leaders that are already actively engaged in making change in their country. All the members have participated in Global Minimum Inc. (GMin) programs where they have worked on increasing their STEM skills and designed social innovation projects. GMin inspires African youth to be innovators, leaders and entrepreneurs in Sierra Leone and Kenya, through InLab, an after school program introducing digital literacy and InChallenge an annual innovation competition for high school students which aim to enhance critical and creative thinking, promote civic engagement, strengthen STEM literacies and develop entrepreneurship and leadership skills in youth.
