One Touch Ministry has served men coming home from prison for over 22 years. We provide indvidualized, wrap-around case management services, including support groups, job and life skills training, food assistance, transportation, and housing.
The men we serve need our help more than ever. Many have lost the jobs they worked so hard to find and are experiencing significant anxiety due to the isolation imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. This is different than being in jail or prison. The men we work with served their time and expected to be able to enjoy their freedom. Now their movement is restricted once again. While we all have to obey the stay-at-home order, we do not all have the memories of incarceration that make this mandate even more stressful.
One Touch has intensified our case management services during this time. We check in on our clients even more frequently and deliver groceries (including hand sanitizer and masks) so that they can get what they need without having to risk infection. Some of our clients have serious health issues and are more likely to experience severe complications if they are exposed.
We are also attentive to our clients' mental health needs during this time. The men we serve are no longer able to congregate for support groups. These groups usually allow men to relieve their stress and anxiety. Now they are no longer able to help each other in this way. We regularly call our clients on the phone to check on their well-being, and they know that they can call us 24/7. One client recently told us, "I really know that you all care."
Please consider donating to help us support men coming home from prison during this difficult time. Thank you!
